SAN FRANCISCO — The first round of the 2012 U.S. Open is in the books in San Francisco and, as expected, The Olympic Club is taking no prisoners.
Only six golfers carded rounds below par on Thursday. Michael Thompson leads the field at -4, with five golfers three shots back after first-round 69s: Tiger Woods, David Toms, Nick Watney, Graeme McDowell and Justin Rose.
Tiger’s playing partners Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson both struggled on Thursday, with Mickelson shooting 76 and Watson carding a 78.
