Florida, Louisville to battle for West Regional crown

03/24/2012

PHOENIX, AZ – Dave Sims and Bill Frieder will be on hand to call the action from the West Regional final between (7) Florida and (4) Louisville from the U.S. Airways Center on the Dial Global Radio Network.

The rather unlikely matchup between the Gators and Cardinals was made possible in part by the ousters of the region’s top three seeds: Michigan State, Missouri, and Marquette.  The matchup also delivers the weekend’s best coaching storyline, as Louisville head coach Rick Pitino will look for another trip to the Final Four on the 25-year anniversary of improbably leading Providence to college basketball’s marquee event.

Pitino’s star player on that Friars team?  A sharpshooting guard named Billy Donovan – the head coach of the Florida Gators.  Though Donovan is the “student” to Pitino’s “teacher,” it is Donovan who owns two national championships, to Pitino’s one.

Here are the guys with a preview of the big game from Phoenix.
