NEW ORLEANS (12/26/11) – Drew Brees broke Dan Marino’s 27-year-old record for most passing yards in a single season as the New Orleans Saints clinched the NFC South with a 45-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.
Brees threw for 307 yards on the night to reach 5,087 on the season – two better than Marino threw for in the 1984 campaign.
The Saints improved to 12-3 on the season, while Atlanta – who have earned a Wild Card spot and will also make the playoffs – fell to 9-6.
